Disposable Coffee Cup Campaign
Plastic-lined paper cups are not recyclable in Hong Kong (and not often recycled anywhere in the world). They end up in our landfills, which are almost full, and add to the problem of waste on our streets and in our oceans.
We would like to ask for your participation to help us gather data for this project. This data will help us create a campaign targeting consumers and coffee shops. Our aim is to encourage behaviour change by consumers, and action by coffee shops, to reduce the use of disposable hot drink cups while 'drinking in'. We will also share this information with the government so that they will have factual data on this problem, and can consider future legislation to reduce this form of unnecessary waste.
For the purpose of this survey, a coffee shop is any food and beverage establishment that serves at minimum hot drinks for both takeaway and to stay.
This survey will continue until October 14.
You can start straight away.
Disposable Cup Survey
The process is very simple. Whenever you are at or near a coffee shop, have a quick walk around the seating area to do a spot check. Fill in this Google Form with the following information:
· Name of coffee shop:
· # of people using the shop's 'to-stay' mugs
· # of people using disposable hot drink cups
· # of people using their own reusable cups
· Did you see a sign advertising a discount for bringing your own cup?
Help us spread the word
Please share this campaign with anyone you think can help. We need information on a variety of shop locations and times of the day, but don't hesitate to do the same shop on different days.
This data we are collecting is about the behaviour of consumers sitting in the coffee shop only, not for takeaway. The more forms you can fill in for different coffee shop visits, the more data we will have to work with.
You can add the link to the Google Form to your phone homepage so that it is easy for you to access.
